Suzi is a Senior PATHH Guide at Boulder Crest Retreat in Bluemont, Virginia, www.bouldercrestretreat.org, a privately funded retreat for combat veterans, their families and first responders. Suzi is one of the creators of BCR’s, signature program called PATHH, which stands for Progressive and Alternative Training for Healing Heroes. PATHH is the nation’s first seven-day, curriculum-based retreat, with eighteen months follow up support, based on the thirty-year science of Posttraumatic Growth. BCR has expanded to Arizona and is training other local and national veteran support programs on the PATHH curriculum.
Before coming to BCR, Suzi co-founded BIG Heart Ranch and Farm in Malibu, California, www.bigheartranch.org where a wonderfully, diverse family of rescued animals and clients, of all ages, form deep connections to help facilitate healing from the effects of trauma. While managing BHR, Suzi also developed an equine therapy model called Horse Inspired Growth and Healing, (HIGH) which includes ground and mounted activities to nurture Posttraumatic Growth and holistic wellness.
Suzi was the first Clinical Director of Alo House Recovery Centers, a progressive, strength based, trauma focused dual diagnosis, treatment community in Malibu and Los Angeles California.
Suzi started her own healing journey from childhood trauma, by participating in Lifesavers’ wild horse gentling program, www.wildhorserescue.org where she continues as a member of the Board of Directors and co-creator of the Wild Horse Warrior Journey, a unique therapeutic retreat, where veterans learn to gentle wild horses as a way to practice emotional regulation.
Before becoming a therapist, Suzi received a BA in Theater from Middlebury College and worked as a video and film producer/director. Her volunteer support for people with AIDS and advocacy for safer sex led her to: opening America’s first condom store, Condomania; hosting her own TV and radio talk shows; being a frequent guest on Oprah; and having two books published by Putnam.
